Meets on Wednesdays from 3:45-5:00pm.
In this 4 week after-school program, you’ll get hands-on experience with medieval weapons – think longbows, crossbows, rapiers, longswords – through skill building, games, challenges, trials, contests, and sparring in a welcoming, low-pressure community. Note that we will be shooting with metal field points, rubber blunts, and foam-tipped arrows, all swords will be foam. No prior experience required!
Ages: Bows and blades is open to 6th-9th graders (we call this middle school plus).
Equipment: You do not need to own or bring any equipment. We will provide all weapons and safety equipment. If you are interested in getting your own equipment, please contact us and we can happily help you find the right gear.
Staff:
- Elk has over a decade of swordplay experience, from modern Olympic fencing to historical rapier and longsword. They have trained since 2017 with the Society for Creative Anachronism, a living history organization wherein they have become an awarded rapier fighter holding several regional championship titles. At Crow’s Path, they have often taught swordplay skills to kids through foam sword sparring, drills, and various structures of melee battles.
- Teage has been making and shooting bows since he was a kid. Over the past 15 years he has taken several classes on primitive archery and bow making. He has made many recurve and longbows by hand and has run numerous archery programs for kids at Crow’s Path.
