Bud Burst Lecture

May 12 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

This month we’ll look at the smallest parts of our big trees. With temperatures consistently in the 40s and 50s, plants are mostly free of the hazards of a frost. Trees begin to sprout tiny little leaves. These leaves often look different from their mature forms. Learn about the adaptation of trees that serve them well in the springtime.

A 5-day natural history intensive geared towards educators of all varieties. You’ll learn to tease out the rich stories written in the fabric of Vermont’s unique landscape. It is a story written in stone walls, old apple trees, sprawling oak trees, and valleys carved into sandy banks. Using a mix of field trips, hands-on science activities, and lectures, you’ll learn the tools and develop the capacity to weave together the stories in your own backyard (and schoolyard) and the confidence to share these skills with your students. Graduate credit through Castleton is available.

Our curriculum is emergent, based on the passions of the staff, the evolving interest of each kid, and the seasonal events unfolding under a canopy of maples and hickories.
