What: Pith has for a long time eluded me as to what exactly its function is. While researching the topic, it beccame clear that what it is eludes most people (including most text books). Pith, as it turns out, is bum Bum BUM: the origination site of buds. And that’s about it. So why all the variability. Pith can be hollow (as with invasive honeysuckles), chambered (as in walnuts), spongy (as in sumac)
